Description
One painted silk Edinburgh Tobacconists Banner. The banner is beige with a green border. The main title scroll reads, 'TOBACCONISTS' (gold on pink); The shield contains a tobacco pressing machine, man in European clothes holding a tobacco plant; Above, a native American and man in European clothing in a tobacco field. There are two supporters flanking the shield, on left, a woman carrying a flag with a gold sun , on right a Native American carrying the Union flag of stripes and 13 stars. There is a wolf and eagle at their feet; As a crest, a gold castle surrounded by a strap and buckle with Latin inscription (gold on blue and very worn); Motto scroll, 'THIS WHOLSOME(sic) PLANT OER NATIONS SPREAD BY THE LIVING MUSED OER THE DEAD'. There are clovers all round the banner.
