Title
Set model for the 'Harbour Scene' from the pantomime 'Aladdin', 1985
Description
One pantomime set model for the Harbour Scene in Aladdin (Act I Scene II), designed by Terry Parsons. The freestanding model of the stage is composed of a cardboard base and four vertical sheets of blue card, each representing a different cut cloth. The first sheet shows the proscenium arch, a blue background and a hand painted ornate Chinese-style archway in blue, white, and gold, with pillars and Chinese dragons flanking the stage. Behind this are two cut cloths, painted with bamboo frames and paper lanterns, and two three-dimensional buildings affixed to either side of the stage, 'Twankey's Laundry' on the right and 'Wishee Washee's Pet Shop' on the left. Next is the dock, running across the stage, and finally the backcloth, painted to look like the ocean. Scattered across the stage in front of the dock are eleven male and female chorus members in patchwork kimonos, hand painted on paper.
