This image shows a coach run by the North British Railway Company. The information which acompanies a similar image in the collection of the National Galleries of Scotland identifies this as a service running between Levenhall and Musselburgh railway station.

The North Britsh Railway Company came into being in the mid 1840's. It became the biggest railway company in Scotland. It was originally intended to link Edinburgh to Berwick, but went on to run services to London, Dundee and Mallaig amongst other destinations. The company was absorbed into the London and North Eastern Railway at the Grouping in 1923. The company was responsible for the construction of both the Tay and Forth Rail Bridges.
