Description
The weather outside is terrific & no "escorts" are willing to take us out, so I suppose there is nothing for it, but to "await our souls in
patience" till the storm abates. I will give this to one of the officers to take ashore to post. To think of us looking at Scotland & can't get ashore! It's justa - able! It's a beautiful day & Lerwick is looking at it's [its] best. The bay is full of all sorts of craft, Norwegian, Dutch & English boats & dominating all - our grey monsters of the deep, keeping guard./

31st March. Belfast Lough.
It's "Ireland for ever" this time & I don't think!! I wonder if we will ever reach home!? I hae ma doots!
Well, we "looked" at Lerwick for a week, at last the storm outside subsided & we put to sea again, escorted by 2 gallant little mine sweepers who took us as far as the N.W. coast of Scotland, there they left us, unable to weather the storm which we encountered going through The Minch. We got a terrible tossing, the good old "Smolensk" did the best, but nevertheless, she rolled & tossed & heaved! When going down the W. coast of Scotland, we sighted a German sub & enjoyed a little game of hide & seek with her, dodging about among the Islands, Rum, Eig [Eigg],
