to go round! Then the said "holy" cake was sent round the company & we each had to partake of some, which we washed down with a glass of brandy neat! After more kissing of hands & blessings & congratulations we were allowed to depart! Then at night we were invited to a "smoking concert",
we went at 9 o'cl: & stayed till about 11 - the evening was only beginning then, but we took our departure, as we thought it was "no place for ladies" & that they would enjoy themselves better without us. Some of the officers danced the Kola - the Serbian national dance - not only did they dance it themselves but they insisted in dragging some of us in to the game & instructing us how to dance it also! One officer - a well known Vienna opera singer sang to us - he did have such a magnificant [magnificent] voice. There were choruses, violin sola, string band (impromptu[impromptu]) selections, more dancing, more "health" drinking & so on - this continued till they all began to get "some" merry, so then we gracefully retired!
