Description
squatting about everywhere, horrid half-savage mongrel creatures. Cows, horses, pigs, poultry etc: are always much to the fore in the vicinity of the dwelling places & just seem to wander about the village streets at large.
Last night we had a terrific gale of wind & rain, our poor little "bits of canvas" were almost blown away. There was very little sleep a going as we were "up & down" all night tightening our ropes & hammering in pegs - "some" fun!
Orders just come to be ready for wounded, as very heavy fighting again - so I must "call a halt" for the present.
I thought all that booming in the distance was not for nothin'! The star-shells were lovely last night.
19th Things have been humming since I last wrote & everyone as "busy as busy". One half of the Transport have been going up the line & fetching the wounded here & the other lot having been taking them on later from here to the rail-head (about 2 miles distant)
where they have then gone to the base Hosp: at Migedia [Medjidia], Dr. Inglis & the others still have the hospital there. Such bad cases, mostly quite, quite hopeless, chiefly Serb & Russian - no Rumanians. Of course here, all that can
