Feb: 12th 1917. "British Nursing Home". Petrograd.
Further delay & fresh complications. There's no saying when we may get away now, since Germany's Ultimatum saying they were to sink all neutral ships after the 5th. No one is allowed out of Petrograd. All passengers boats are off, even cargo boats are not running
from Norway. The Ambassador says there's nothing for it, we must just stay here! The "S.W." are very furious & rebellious, I assure you! We're all "packed up" & ready to go at a moment's notice & the Embassy people & the Red X commissioner are doing everything in their power to help us. They are all most awfully good & put themselves to no end of bother about us & we are to get the very first chance of getting away. There are hundreds of people waiting here to get away & hundreds more in Sweden & Norway; the congestion in Norway is terrible we hear. So after all, we're better off here, as we're in comfortable quarters & amongst friends. The English colony here are more than kind, from Lady Georgina Buchanan downwards & we feel we have made some very true friends here. Lady Buchanan is a most charming personality, she is kindness itself & always makes us most welcome at the Embassy. We always go there to
