Monastir road "skirts" the mountain side all the way, so we had a very near [?] of the different ridges. When we reached the top of the Pass, the view was amazing! Stretching in front of us the vast Monastir Plain, in the near distance Banitza & Florina & further away Monastir - half shelled away & further still the high rugged peaks of the Serbian & Albanian mountains - such a panorama of beauty. Just before reaching Banitza we "dismounted" & had a picnic lunch in a maize field, beneath a shady walnut tree!
We wanted to go on & on, but time would not allow, so back we unwillingly bundled in to the car again & started the homeward journey! Coming back we made a detour & after going through Gormicheva, turned southwards & went round Lake Osduvo. We drove along quite close to the water's edge all the time & it was so cool & lovely, through quaint little Osduvo village & on to the "S.W." Camp, where we had tea & then on again. We reached Vodena shortly after 5 o'clock. There we left the car - Major S. had to be home for some appointment or inspection or something at 6 o'cl:, we being out on the "razzle" had no desire to return to camp at that early hour, so "got left" in Vodena to find our own way home! We prowled about among the booths & old stops, went to see the water-falls & explored several of the old churches. We then resorted to a
