Description
April 19th Verbliani.
There has not been much happening of late to "diary"! The other night, we went to quite a good theatre show up at Wonni-Pazar - the Serbian S.H.2. They have a v. fine open-air theatre there & the piece "put on" was remarkably well done - all in Serbski of course! Wonni-Pazar is about 15 kilometres "across country" from us & is
a most beautiful spot. After the performance was over, we adjourned to the Officers' Mess & there partook of a sumptuous supper, then followed toasts & speeches etc., this being our first public- appearance at S.H.2.! It was most trying! Several old friends of the Wobrudja days were there & it was nice meeting them again & talking over old times when we all retreated to-gether. We finally departed at 3a.m.! It was a fearsomely dark night & as the road was new to all our drivers, we frequently took the wrong turning & really had a horrible time getting back & chasing each other in the pitch darkness.
Our weather is v. erratic, warm & stuffy mostly & a great deal of thunder. The rain when it does come in these parts is no ordinary rain either, it simply deluges!
The country is looking v. lovely, so fresh & green & such wild flowers everywhere. But one misses the bird life. They don't like the war zone I suppose! The nightingales
don't evidently mind, they certainly sing beautifully, but "enough is as good as a feast" & we're very tired of Mt. Cuckoo
