drew attention & the savages at once began to give us hot stuff. However, we got thru' all right & oh the dozens & dozens of poor suffering creatures we found waiting for us. They bring them down the steep hillside on mules & poor things how shaken about they must get. The road along between Prebedistka & Bakou, where we went backwards & forwards all day yes:. is only supposed to be crossed when dark, as all day long Johnnie Bulgar plays himself shelling it & we found yesterday no exception to the rule!
We met the wounded at a point called Bakou & took them down to a rough dressing station at Sabodska. Poor wretches, some of them were terribly bad & a good many "Went West" ere we could get them as far as Pabolska. There was a big bombardment on last night, the Serbs did brilliantly & took a front-line trench below Vetrimik, but they suffered heavy losses. I can't tell you how often we crossed & re-crossed that piece of road, we got the last of the wounded in at 9p.m. & then got off for "home". We were jolly glad of a good feed as we'd just gulped sandwiches all day & that night neither C. nor I were sorry to "turn in". It was a v. interesting day nevertheless & if we're not too busy, I hope for another day in a ambulance before long.
