Ferdinando Ongania [1842 - 1911] was an Italian antiquarian bookseller, with a shop in St. Mark's Square in Venice. From 1861 until his death in 1911 he devoted himself almost entirely to the printing of illustrated art books. His love of Venice inspired him to record the architecture of his beloved city.

The palace of the Grimani family was erected close to Campo Santa Maria Formosa. The precious collection of ancient marbles that made the palace famous was placed through different rooms, mainly in the Tribuna, identified by an architectural structure organized in niches and shelves for housing more than one hundred and thirty sculptures, including Greek and Roman works.
