Accompanying text from the volume 'German Raid on Scarborough' reads, "Many of the houses struck by the German shells were unoccupied and fortunately this was the case with this house No. 14 Lonsdale Road; Mrs Walker, who tenanted it, being absent from her home. The neighbours next door had exceedingly narrow escapes. This wanton attack on the part of the German nation brings home to us all the horrors of war and the fearful suffering borne by the Belgian people, and the magnificent bravery with which they have met the disasters of the invasion of their land."
