Desaguier was an engineer who laid a new 5 inch diameter water pipe to the city from Comiston. The son of a protestant clergyman who fled his native France for England seeking the right to freely practice his religion which was outlawed by the Edict Of Nantes. Desagulier was educated in London and later at Oxford where he later taught and received some fame as a mathmatician and 'experimental philosopher.' He was at one point in the position of Chaplain to the Prince of Wales. However it appears he had a change of fortune and died destitute in a Covent Garden coffee house.
