Description
but always sad. Physically, the Serbs are "the pick" of the Balkan races. They have an easy grace & masculine strength seldom found in either the Greeks or the Bulgars. Many are strikingly handsome, tall & slim & splendidly built & speaking generally, the Serbian soldiers are magnificent specimens of humanity. They are men of the open air, of the mountain & the farm & it is their clean & strong physique that has made
them so unconquerable a fighter, combined with their universal patriotic enthusiasm & their great & enduring love of their country. No proof is needed of the patriotism & devotion of an army that has seen thru' what the Serbs have endured. They
are indeed a strong nation & a truly fine people.
"Slivela Serbiya!" - ("Long live Serbia!")
Last week [?] & L came up from Salonique for a few days. I got a whole day off when they were here & thoroughly enjoyed it! We all three went up on the Ho. ambulance to Kapiniani. We were "dropped" at Kapiniani, while the ambulance went further on to Nova Zelzta for wounded. The "medicals" at the dressing station at Kapiniani took charge of us & we spent quite an interesting stay there. We saw all the "ins & outs" of their little cleaning station & then one of the doctors took us around the village. It is quite a Turkish little place. We went in to the old mosque & then we visited several Turkish dwelling houses & conversed with the occupants - our [?] friend waiting for us
