Description
the vast olive grove & up the hill sides, almond blossom & other lovely flowering shrubs, all in full bloom. We passed thru' several most interesting little mountain villages - one, Amfissa, struck me as being specially picturesque, it seemed to nestle close in against the mountainside, & just seemed a tumble-down jumble of houses!
The natives in their multi-coloured petticoats & bright blouses, astride mules, orherding their sheep & goats, added to the novelty of the scene. After reaching the summit, we suddenly dipped down & soon reached the village of Gravia & then on here to Bralo -the newly opened Rest Camp for [?] going to the Salonique front. They are sending them all across this way now, instead of around by sea. The situation of the camp is beautiful, but that is about all that can be said in its favour! At present, it is one huge sea of mud, the result of one night's rain - what will it be like after a week's deluge! "Some" hope! We entrain this after. & reach Salonique to-morrow, we hope.

8th March. S.W.H. Salonique.
We arrived here this after, in a deluge of rain! We had a v. tiring &unpleasant journey from Bralo, an ancient train & v. cramped - in a carriage & an over-flow in the corridors! We came thru' quite wonderful scenery. Bare, but nobly formed & clear-cut mountains, deep blue gulfs & such a beautiful, clear, ethereal atmosphere, the kind of atmosphere
