Description
in Ancient Greece, made famous by its association with the worship of Apollo. From earliest times it was a sacred place to the primitive in-habitants of Greece, who worshipped the earth-goddess there. It was only in 1892 that Delphi was thoroughly excavated & explored & mainly owing to the expertise of the French archaeologists (that is the word, I think!!). There is the great temple of Apollo, approached by a winding path - "The Sacred Way", above it is the theatre, & higher up still on the spur of the hill, is the stadium, the scene of the famous Pythian Games. Under the temple runs the [?] Stream, from the ravine of which arose the vapour that inspired the Pythian oracle! What lots & lots there is to tell about Delphi - but this is only a diary! We came home by the other side of the ravine & it was a beautiful walk. The almond blossom was just lovely & the scent so sweet. We reached Idea again about 7p.m. & are once more aboard the old "Rowan". We are "billeted" here for the night
& go on to Bralo to-morrow by motor transport.

7th March. Bralo Rest Camp
We left Idea early yest: morning & drove across here, in (what once were) - motor ambulances!! It was a drive of some 40 or 50 miles & the scenery the whole way was v. wonderful indeed. We went up for sea-level to over 2,500ft. & it was truly very fine. High, rugged mountains, all snow clad, the highest summits lost in a silvery mist. Far down in the valleys below us
