March 5th "The Isles of Greece". Idea.
We left Taranto on the 3rd, aboard "The Rowan" & some tub was she! At one time it seems, she ran between Glasgow & Belfast - quite likely! What I say is, why did she ever leave the Irish Channel!! It was perfectly smooth, sailing out of Taranto Bay, but towards evening, after we were well in to the open sea, the old "Rowan" didn't half pitch & toss & we had an evil time of it for 24 hrs - at least I know I had!
Last night, we dropped anchor off Paras & in consequence had a peaceful night. We set sail again early this morning & sailed up the Gulf of Corinth to Idea, where we once again dropped anchor. We got here about mid-day & are lying out about a couple of miles. The scenery, as we came thru' the G. of Corinth was fine, such great high hills capped with snow & oh so grand & rugged. We are lying in a wonderful
spot at present, just opposite to us is Mt. Parnassus & over to the South towers Mt. Helicon. This after., we all were allowed ashore & oh how we enjoyed t! We went for a beautiful walk, thru' "The" olive-grove, they say, the largest & finest olive grove in the world, the "floor" of the olive grove was carpeted with every kind of flower imaginable, irises, poppies, forget-me-nots & anemones, oh such blooms & colours,
it was a gorgeous sight. A few miles up the steep hillside, at the foot of Mt.Parnassus, lies Delphi - that tiny town,
