Description
One half plate sepia photograph from the Second Boer War of a group of British officers wearing khaki service dress standing on a plain in the Orange Free State with sheep or goats in background and hills in the distance. Mounted on white card. On the back is a handwritten note that reads 'General French and Staff waiting in front of Thabanchu for Loudrust Brand to come out and surrender town. Tuesday 20th March 1900'.

The names of the officers are written in ink which includes Douglas Haig on the bottom of the mount at the front.

At the top of the mount is written: "Thabanchu". From left to right the men are: Capt Vaughan, Brigade Major 1st Brigade, Major Lord Talbot D.A.A.G. Lt Gen Haig A.A.G, Capt Laycoch A.D.C, Brigadier General Broadward 2nd Brigade and General French.
