The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Beesklack House, the residence of John Cowan, Esq., situated in the parish of Glencorse, was erected by the present proprietor, John Cowan, Esq., between the years 1855 and 1857. It occupies a well selected site, having on the north-west the fine range of the Pentland Hills bounding the view. On the east it has the valley of the Esk - the precipitous banks of which at this point resemble Hawthornden in miniture.'
Beeslack House is now Aaron House Care Home
