Dutch Camouflage
Description
"The little village of Amerongen never expected that its obscure ways would know the feet of the mighty German Emperor. After the great storm, with Europe in flames and Germany in utter ruin, the boastful architect of this destruction could do no better than burden a neutral country with his embarrassing person. As a private person he journeyed thither on the afternoon of the tenth of November 1918, twenty-four hours before the signing of the armistice. He had always admired Napoleon, and, like him, he abandoned his country when it was in distress. Just before he fled he addressed a note to the Crown Prince, stating that the had left 'after the Court Chamberlain had informed me that he could no longer guarantee my safety at Great Headquarters.' The Crown Prince soon followed his father's example, and became a plain person visiting Holland for 'an indefinite period.'"
