The Masquerade
Description
"'Do you really expect to escape punishment by that Revolutionary Masquerade?'"

"An American who crossed the German lines immediately after the armistice compiled the following conclusions, which reveal why Germany suddenly became so enthusiastic about a democratic costume.

'There would have been no Revolution if Germany had been victorious.'

'A winning war would have made Germany the greatest country and the Kaiser the greatest man in the world.'

The war was popular in Germany until September 1918. Then it was discovered that the war was lost. As soon as that was fully realised the Revolution followed.'"
