Kinleith Paper Mill was founded in 1792 and was the largest of the three paper mills in Currie. Currie is 6 miles south west of Edinburgh and towards the end of the
19th century the parish was largely rural, its population declining due to developments in agriculture. Its location on the Water of Leith however led to the development of mills, especially paper mills. Kinleith closed in 1966.
Originally a separate village, Currie is now considered part of Edinburgh. It lies on the Water of Leith, roughly 6 miles south west of the centre of Edinburgh.
