In the water there are a few small rowing boats one of which has a man in it rowing for shore. Two other gentlemen can be seen standing on an outcrop of land in the water.

Gladhouse reservoir is the largest body of fresh water in the Lothians. It is close to the village of Temple and is approximately 5 miles from Penicuik. Opened in 1879 it was the first of the Moorfoot project reservoirs built on the South River Esk to supplement the water supply of Edinburgh. In recent years it has become a special protection area as it is an important roosting area for Pink Footed Geese.
