The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the residence of Sir George Warrender, Bart., is situated in the southern suburbs of Edinburgh, being close to the Meadows and Bruntisfield [sic] Links. It was, till within the last five years, surrounded by about 74 acres of grass parks, but as these are being rapidly built on, the house and gardens are now, except to the east and west, environed by streets.'
