The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the residence of Sir George Grant Suttie, Bart., is situated in the parish of North Berwick, and is surrounded by very beautiful and picturesque grounds. The house in former times presented the usual architectural proportions of a Scottish mansion of the seventeenth century, but it has recently been considerably improved. A new terrace joining the two wings has been added to the front, while to the north and east extensive additions have recently been made, embracing a large dining-room, adding much to the interior accommodation of the house.'
Balgone house is now Self-catering accommodation
