Title
Page twenty-three of 'Flora's Feast', the Wild Roses
Description
Two young women encircled by a rose stalk link arms and pose coquettishly. They are both wearing shorter dresses with a low waist, headdresses fashioned from petals, and pointed shoes. The accompanying text reads:
"And Roses from the hedgerow wild,
Behind their thorns that faintly smiled".

Again Crane draws on the link between roses and love. By establishing an element of continuity between the images it becomes easier for the reader to view the book as a whole and to imagine the flowers interacting within a shared community.
This particular illustration of wild roses aptly demonstrates the meticulous positioning of the figures found consistently throughout in order to balance the individual compositions, thus making them more aesthetically pleasing to the eye as balance and harmony were thought to be crucial for achieving beauty in decorative art.
Another observation of note regarding this image is the style of dress that the two women are wearing. The dropped hemlines and less restrictive waistbands, along with the shorter length certainly distinguish theses costumes from the others.
