Four heads belonging to Professor Dalzell of the University of Edinburgh, Rev. Dr. John Erskine of Carnock, minister of Old Greyfriars' Church, Rev. Dr Andrew Hunter of the Tron Kirk and the Hon. Henry Erskine, advocate, are depicted riding what appears to be a mythical hydra, and on the right, Dr. Alexander Carlyle holds what looks like a raised club, staff, or similar object above their head in a threatening gesture.
