Duke of Gordon's Mansion on Castle Hill

Description

A group of multi-level buildings sit on one side of a hill. A short stone wall is on one side, along the front is a wooden fence. There are outhouses and trees in front of the buildings. A flight of steps separates Edinburgh Castle from the other structure. Soldiers, some with rifles can be seen on and beyond the Castle walls. On the wall there is a watchtower.

Castlehill is the section of the Royal Mile running from the Castle Esplanade to the Lawnmarket in Edinburgh.

The Duke of Gordon's House was situated down a narrow alley known as Blair's Close leading south off Castlehill in Edinburgh. It was demolished in the construction of Castlehill School, now the Scotch Whisky Experience, in 1887.
