This banner was carried by the Associated Carpenters and Joiners of Scotland in
the Radical Demonstration in favour of the Franchise Bill on 12 July 1884. During
conservation, it was discovered that the two sides of this banner had been stitched on top
of NO TAXES ON KNOWLEDGE (HH5827/98) and the fringe seen here belongs to that
banner.
The Radical Demonstration, at which this banner was carried, was intended to put pressure on the Tory House of Lords which was blocking the Bill.
