Title
Luther-Liebknecht in the Reichstag
Description
"It is a War of Aggression! On that I take my stand. I cannot do otherwise."

"Liebknecht (whose father abstained, with Bebel, from voting the war loan in 1870) was the only Socialist deputy who denounced the war in the Reichstag on 4 August 1914. In the caucus of the Social Democratic party, fourteen deputies had registered their protests against the War Credit Bill of 4 August, but, instructed by the parliamentary group, they kept silence during its passage, and Liebknecht was the one man who had the force to rebel against the ruling of his own party. This act of moral courage the artist compares with Luther's declaration before the Diet of Worms in 1521."
