"A satire on the inert Dutch bourgeois party, which was intent on shutting its eyes and keeping quiet at all costs, no matter what might be in store for the country hereafter. The framed text hanging on the wall runs: 'Candles and spectacles don't help the owl if he doesn't want to see things.'"
