Accompanying text reads:
"The remains of the Chateau of Damery, a fine old house a little way behind the German front line after the battle of the Somme. The enemy used its basement as a headquarters; the entrance may be seen at the ground level. The damage seen was caused by shell-fire. The German devastations began a little further behind their front."
