High Kirk [St Giles Cathedral], ruins of buildings destroyed in Great Fire
Description
St. Giles Cathedral rises majestically above the ruins of buildings destroyed by the 1824 Great Fire of Edinburgh. Three horses and carts are visible amongst the ruins, while men can be seen working. Two people stand on top of the ruins watching the scene.

The drawing shows the south-eastern end of St Giles: the Preston Aisle and sundial of the south side of the church are visible along with the crocketed cresting that formerly surrounded the east end of the choir.
