Alcoholism. Britons never will be slaves.
Description
"We are fighting Germany, Austria, and drink and as far as I can see, the greatest of these deadly foes is drink".

"See Mr Lloyd George's Speech, 29 March 1915, to a deputation of shipbuilders who urged on him the total prohibition of the sale of drink during the war".

"Mr. Lloyd George's charge of excessive drinking against the Clyde engineers and other munition workers was bitterly resented by the latter as a libel. The Government's contemplated heavy duties on spirits, beer, and wine were withdrawn on 7 May 1915, and later in the year special regulations as to the sale of spirits in munition areas were enforced by an Order in Council. Subsequently the sale of drink in London and the many provincial areas was restricted during the war to a few hours daily.
