The two heralds are both in contrapposto, perfectly mirroring each other which is characteristic of classical sculpture. They are dressed in a medieval idealisation of a herald uniform incorporating aesthetic ideas of flowers decorating the costume. The script of the poem is Crane's own version of a medieval script, which shows an influence from the medieval motifs. These motifs were much admired by those in the Arts and Crafts Movement, again associating the images and the texts with the artistic styles of the day.
