Description
"In the Appreciation to the present volume, attention is directed to M. Raemaekers' frequent recourse to biblical scenes and characters. In almost every case Christ is represented as typifying Humanity, and thus is in this rendering of the scene in the Judgement Hall wherein Peter denies his Lord. This cartoon appeared towards the end of 1916, at a time when repeated outrages on Humanity roused the world to an extreme pitch of indignation, and in contrast to which the President's inaction seemed incomprehensible. Peter's denial of Christ was quickly forgiven and amply atoned for by his subsequent career, and this will doubtless be the case with regard to the President's apparent attitude towards Humanity."
