The American writer and illustrator Holly Hobby created the fictional character of her namesake, 'Holly Hobbie'. During the 1970's, Hobbie created the well loved character of the little girl in the large bonnet, apron and rag doll dress. The series of illustrations created for the greeting card company American Greetings, was a global success. A cartoon, books and other spin offs such as this Simplicity pattern were hugely popular.
