Kitano Tenmangu Shrine is famous for its supposed power of answering prayers, especially for learning. A patron of learning, Michizane Sugawara (845-903), who had great academic achievements during his life time, is connected with the shrine and has been worshipped here since 947. Therefore, many students still visit this temple every year.
