The image for 'The Fox and the Crane' uses motifs found in Crane's Arts and Craft's interior design work. The plants, which form a screen behind the animals, reflect some of his wallpaper designs. In fact, Crane was commissioned to do a series of wallpapers based on his children's books. There is a relationship between design in the home and nursery and design in his books, reflecting the innovative designs of the larger Arts and Crafts Movement which tried to bring art to the people. The shells in the corner relate the fable back to its Greek origins.
