Description

The Royal Exchange in Edinburgh has an arcaded walkway and sculpted stonework showing the city coat of arms. Below is an arch with statues and other sculpures. to either side of this are the medal and its reverse. One showing the head of the architect, the other the building.

The writing in the image reads: "The South front of the new designed square to serve as an exchange in the city of Edinburgh. The area go foot square -". Below the sketch of the triumphal arch, the writing reads: The triumphal arch erected on occasion of laying the first stone of the exchange of Edinburgh, 13th September, 1753. In breadth 28 foot, in height 20."
