The rubble that was Dumbryden Primary School in Wester Hailes is being sorted by a large yellow industrial excavator.To the forefront are broken brick walls that have been added to the heap of wood, roofing materials and internal walls. An outline of a part of the school that is still standing can be seen behind the heap of rubble.The schools perimeter fence is beyond the digger. Along the background are low rise flats.

Dumbryden Primary School Wester Hailes was opened in 1963. There were nine classrooms. In addition the school had an infant and upper school hall, music room, infant and upper school library, resource base, an information technology suite, dining room and a large playground. There was also a nursery.
In 2004 the council considered the falling rolls across the city and voted to close Dumbryden Primary and the nearby Hailesland Primary and united the pupils in a new school at Canal View. There was local unhappiness at the decision.
Inspite of boarding up windows there were still incidences of vandalism and fire raising. In 2010 the school was finally demolished.
Prospect Housing Association bought the land and plan to build housing on the site.
