The Assured Future
Description
"On our flag you see the eagle, the noblest of creatures. Exulting in his strength, he soars in the rays of God's sun; he knows naught of fear or danger. Such should be our ambition and all our aims."

"This magnificent cartoon, which has the honour of completing Mr. Raemaekers' Indictment, had its raison d'etre in his indignation at the line of conduct adopted by certain Dutch professors, who in order to promulgate their pro-German views, acquired a newspaper, originally the property of a German and maintained by German advertisements, entitled De Toekomst (The Future). It was gratuitously circulated amongst the well-to-do, naval, military, and civilian classes. The cartoon appeared in De Telegraaf on the French National Day, 14 July 1915, under the title of 'De Toekomst.' It depicts the determination of France to grapple victoriously, albeit after much travail and heavy labour, with her ancient enemy."
