Miss Justine Munro was the daughter of Sheriff Munro of Linlithgowshire. Hill's vision of the early Victorian woman was that of a fragile upper-class lady in contemplative pose. The daughters of the families living in the New Town, Edinburgh's fashionable area, were particularly suitable subjects for these calotypes.
