Each of the countries who engaged in WW1 conflict held massive recruitment drives which were met with much enthusiasm as war fever was in its early days. This image depicts Russian men answering the call of their government. Prior to the war, Russia boasted a standing army of 1.4 million but this number quickly expanded and at its height the Tsar had 5 million men in his ranks.
