'The women here seen giving walnuts to the Belgian soldiers as they rested in the trenches near Antwerp did so at great personal risk. It was stated on October 2 that as a result of the German Bombardment, ten people had been killed and twenty wounded at Lierre. Duffel was also bombarded.'
