Peace Day was celebrated across Britain and in Edinburgh on Saturday 19 July 1919. Bonfires were lit in almost all areas of the city. The Scotsman (of Monday 21 July 1919) reported that:
"A large number of peace balloons were released in Edinburgh and elsewhere by the North British Rubber Company who offered rewards for their return by the finders. Those passing over Edinburgh in the forenoon attracted widespread attention amongst the crowds gathering for the march past of the troops".
Regent Road in Edinburgh runs along the south side of Calton Hill and Regent Gardens from Montrose Terrace to Waterloo Place.
