Turquoise silk banner with a wool fringe and a different painted design each side.
Obverse: title scroll, BOOKBINDERS' & MACHINE RULERS' CONSOLIDATED
UNION, EDINBURGH BRANCH, INSTITUTED JANUARY 1ST 1836. Shield with four quadrants,and thistles around each side. A bookbinder and machine ruler as supporters on each side standing in a landscape with a flaming sky behind. JUNE 28TH A.D. 1788 painted on the mountains behind. Four scenes: a man going to work; three men looking at poster advertising a meeting on unemployment; an old man reading a paper in a sitting room; a funeral with four men and a minister standing around a grave. A dove flying across a shining sun above, with clasped hands and WE JOIN TO PROTECT, 1836. Motto above, BIND RIGHT WITH MIGHT and below, UNITY FRIENDSHIP & PROSPERITY TO TRADE.
