Christopher North was the nom-de-plume of Professor John Wilson, a Tory anti-reformist, writer and editor of Blackwood's Magazine. He is being drenched by water from pump worked by plumber. In his right hand North holds a book with the word 'Ebony Magazine'. The word Ebony is a pun on Blackwood.Carried in1832 painted in white along the bottom edge.
