Morningside was once a village on a main road south from Edinburgh. In the 1850's it was no more than a row of thatched houses and a blacksmith's forge and beyond the Jordan Burn was open countryside. Nowadays it is predominantly residential with a collection of small traditional shops, restaurants, supermarkets, a library and hospitals.
"Cuddy Lane. There are more examples of original cottages here. Some people believe the name "cuddy" arose as horses were tethered here while waiting for children aged 5-13 to attend school until 1872. It is now owned by the Christian Bretheren".
