Title
Joannes Bruno M.D. Hercule Opium minime sedat (Dr Brown in his study)
Description
A portrait of Joannes Bruno M.D. in an oval frame. There is a Latin inscription"Hercules Opium minime sedat". He is depicted in the typical period attire with a powdered wig, dark coat, and white cravat.
He sits at a desk with an open book before him, quill pen in hand, appearing to be writing or studying. The setting is a well-appointed study or library, with tall bookshelves filled with volumes visible behind him on the left side. A window on the right provides light to the workspace, and additional books are stacked on the desk surface.
The oval vignette format was a popular convention for formal portraits of scholars, physicians, and other learned professionals during this era.
